The biggest rumor about The Dark Knight Rises over the last week has been that the third trailer for the film would debut in May. Much speculation revolved about if Warner Bros. would choose to debut the trailer in front of Marvel Studios’ The Avengers or in front of their own Dark Shadows.
On the one hand, premiering in front of The Avengers would help Warner Bros. reach a huge audience of superhero fans. On the other hand, premiering in front of Dark Shadows could help boost the opening weekend box office for Dark Shadows.
We’re happy to report that Warner Bros. chose to go with The Avengers, which means the third Dark Knight Rises trailer will debut on May 4. The official word came via the Warner Bros exhibitor site, which was spotted by NolanFans.com forum members. According to the placements listings, The Dark Knight Rises third trailer will play in front of 2-D, 3-D, and IMAX showings of The Avengers.
While it might seem odd for a trailer about a DC Comics character to premiere in front of a Marvel Comics movie, it’s not a first. One of The Dark Knight trailers debuted in front of Iron Man. It’s also a good move on the part Warner Bros., because they will be exposing the trailer to a large base of interested viewers.
