In the wake of tragic events, television networks and movie studios are often forced to make quick changes in order to avoid coming across as insensitive. The shootings during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises resulted in Warner Bros. changing a scene in Gangster Squad and DC Comics delaying an issue of Batman Incorporated.
Now, according to the Futon Critic, FOX has pulled Sunday episodes of American Dad and Family Guy because of potentially sensitive content related to the Connecticut school shootings. It’s unclear exactly what the sensitive content is, but at least in the case of American Dad, the episode description offers some clues.
The pulled “Minstrel Krampus” episode of American Dad was described as featuring the legendary Christmas demon Minstrel Krampus, who punishes naughty children on Christmas. The pulled “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph” episode of Family Guy was described as Peter telling his own version of the Nativity story.
In addition to the new American Dad and Family Guy episodes being replaced with previously aired episodes, FOX is also replacing a re-airing of The Cleveland Show’s Die Hard parody episode, “Die Semi-Hard” with another previously aired episode.
