Yes, The Star Trek Into Darkness Prequel Comic Confirms Klingons Appear Onscreen

The Klingons are coming, the Klingons are coming! Alright, so we'd already seen them before, in production footage hiding in the background of J.J. Abrams's MTV Movie Awards interview. And, yes, we'd seen them briefly in the trailer (there are some screen grabs below if you didn't catch them). But now, what amounts to an official still--albeit one that comes by way of the IDW Publishing tie-in comic books--has hit the web, courtesy CBR, seemingly confirming what many had assumed for months: The Klingon will appear in Star Trek Into Darkness. We told you about this just a little while ago. But missing the bit where they were in the trailer is actually key.

The two action sequences in which Klingon warriors appear shot by so quickly it could have been considered inconclusive--but when we look at the cross section of images here--from the comic which is confirmed to be an Abrams Klingon, to the screenshot from a deleted scene from 2009's Star Trek that depicts one in action, to the screen grabs taken from the trailer that show who Benedict Cumberbatch is fighting...well, you just can't escaape it. Everything down to the wardrobe and the style of the "sash" on the warriors' clothing is identical in the trailer to what we see on the cover of Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness #4.

Of course, this isn't REALLY the first official confirmation that Klingons would appear in the movie, even if you discount the fact that it was patently obvious that's what these guys in the trailer were. No, that honor goes to someone on the Bad Robot lot who told Trek Movie that the scenes in question occur on the Klingon homeworld of Qo'nos. So...yes. We haven't yet seen a press release welcoming this storied alien race to the cast--but that certainly doesn't mean we don't have to stop pretending they're "rumored" to appear.
