Sure, it's in a dream sequence, but apparently the events of Star Trek are still weighing heavy on Spock in the months before the beginning of Star Trek Into Darkness. Earlier today, IDW Publishing released a preview of the upcoming Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness series to Comic Book Movie, which featured Spock fantasizing about having saved his mother, who died in the first film back in 2009. For his trouble, he's hurled into the void of space while the Enterprise is destroyed. While any of IDW's books that feature the J.J. Abrams version of the cast are theoretically canonical to the films, Countdown to Darkness is being considered a direct prequel to the upcoming Abrams-directed sequel, setting the stage for Star Trek Into Darkness in the same way Star Trek: Countdown led into Star Trek.
