Iron Man 3 Prequel Comic Reveals Reason Behind Deep Space Suit Armor

Back in November of last year, reported that we had heard that Iron Man would be a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie in some form or fashion. While the Guardians of the Galaxy director reportedly denied the report, an Iron Man 3 toy recently appeared online with Tony Stark wearing Deep Space Suit armor.

Of course, you probably won’t find any images of that Deep Space Suit armor around, because after rumors surface that the Deep Space Suit armor was so Iron Man could join the Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios had the toy company request the images be pulled from the Internet.

In the Iron Man 3 prequel comic book, which was released in comic book stores today, an explanation is offered for the Deep Space Suit armor, which has nothing to do with the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the prequel comic book, James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine, is surprised to learn what the aliens that the Avengers fought looked like.

Tony Stark explains, “Threats not of this world, my friend. While you took on a very terrestrial and very deadly terrorist organization determined to steal our tech and use it against us, the last few days have shown me I need to be prepared for a wide range of situations…opponents….environments.” James Rhodes then responds, “Let me guess a new suit.” To which Tony Stark replies “You’re thinking too small,” and unveils his Iron Legion of multiple suits of armor.

While the Deep Space Suit armor isn’t mentioned directly or shown, it’s pretty obvious that is what Tony Stark is referring to with the lead-in mentioning threats not of this world. So, in Iron Man 3, the reason that Tony Stark builds the Deep Space Suit armor will be because he wants to be prepared for threats like the ones that surfaced in the Avengers. We’re still convinced that he will then use the suit as a tie-in to Guardians of the Galaxy, but the reason he actually builds it is just to be prepared.

Iron man 3 is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 3, 2013.
