Quentin Tarantino's "slave revenge Western" Django Unchained took home the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay tonight. The film, which has drawn backlash from a number of different groups over its portrayal of African Americans, the abundant use of the "n-word" and its depiction of violence, also earned a Best Supporting Actor win for Christoph Waltz earlier tonight. It's nominated for Best Picture, which has not yet been selected, but the film is considered a longshot for that trophy. An earlier, longer version of the Django Unchained screenplay is currently being adapted by DC Comics as a miniseries. Longtime comic book writer Reginald Hudlin. and artists R.M. Guera and Jason LaTour. The comic will reportedly feature scenes that were never included in the film or even shot.
