Warning: Spoilers ahead for tonight's episode of AMC's The Walking Dead!

Even while the Oscars is on, AMC's The Walking Dead perseveres. Tonight's episode didn't have the key thing that stirs people up on social media, but it was a strong episode with some great moments. Our favorites? Read on... The Governor's reveal They milked it for all it was worth, and in the end we got a our first good, long look at the Governor. Not "Phil, the guy who runs the joint," but The Governor, as seen in the comics, and like dropping Vader's helmet over his head, it's clear that something inside of the man slipped into joint finally and he's gone from a dangerous sociopath with little direction to an approximation of the character comic fans were expecting when he was cast. That it took so long to get him to this point seems likely to virtually guarantee he won't die this season; Kirkman has too much fun writing the character and it would be shocking to see him killed off right after he goes full evil. Andrea's homecoming Alright, so we'll admit it: After this week's episode, we're just plain tired of Andrea. The next two might seem a little mean...but damn, were they satisfying. Seeing Rick and the rest treat Andrea just like they'd treat anybody else who wandered in out of the woods and claimed to be friendly when they KNEW for sure she'd been fraternizing with the enemy, for example. She thought it was way over the line, and some viewers might, too...but not me. I thought it was exactly what anybody would do, given the circumstances.

Michonne's takedown of Andrea Michonne's dismantling of Andrea's defenses and excuses was so good it should be illegal. One of my favorite lines in the history of anything is when, during an argument in The American President, the President of the United States asks his Chief of Staff something like "If you're so smart, why are you always one step behind me?" His Chief of Staff responds, "Because if I wasn't, you'd be the most popular history professor at the University of Wisconsin." That's the kind of merciless takedown we got in this episode, when Michonne dropped not one but two truly great lines, both of which stung more for their honesty than anything else, on Andrea. The revelation that Michonne's aggregate opinion of Andrea can be summed by "You chose a warm bed over a friend" and "I didn't know the Messiah complex was contagious" is likely to drive Michonne further into fan-favorite territory, with Andrea's inability to respond to either of those accusations credibly likely making her even more the character fans love to hate.

Hershel confronts Rick Even though we all knew it was coming from the ads, it was nice to see Hershel step up and tell Rick that he's screwing up, and he needs to get his head on straight. I get the uneasy feeling they're setting up Hershel for a fall this season, unfortunately, and that they're doing their best to endear him to the audience as much as possible beforehand. But if that's true, tonight (and last week's, for that matter) worked like a charm. Tyreese chooses sides So, it looks like all that talk about Tyreese maybe not ending up with Rick might amount to something after all! Of course, they also said that Daryl might not end up with Rick, and he didn't!...For all of a week. By the way, did anyone else think that they did a poor job of communicating that Tyreese and company left the prison completely? I mean, the fact that we had to be told point blank on Talking Dead means something didn't go right in editing, doesn't it?
