The Walking Dead Spoiler The Governor

On AMC's The Walking Dead, Philip Blake (better known as the Governor) is many things: he's a leader, a lover, a man with a very strange sense of hospitality, an unrepentant homicidal maniac... ...and apparently a fan of video games, too. ComicBook.com talked to a few musicians, hoping to suss out what exactly it was that he was whistling and whether it had any special relevance to the story, or what he was doing. We had no luck--but apparently talking to musicians wasn't what we should have been doing. Over on The Walking Dead's Reddit page, user c0ntusion has identified those six repeated notes--correctly, it seems, from the sound of the YouTube clip below and the responses he's received so far on Reddit--as "Zelda's Lullaby," from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. "The song I just taught you has some mysterious power. Only Royal Family members are allowed to learn this song," Impa says in the game. "Remember, it will help to prove your connection with the Royal Family." Funny, when you consider that so far he hasn't exactly had a great deal of luck when it comes to people with swords... There is a dissenting opinion out there, though; user Btreyu9 at the Spoil the Dead forums thinks it's actually a callback to earlier this season. "I'm pretty sure it's the song that was playing while he was brushing his daughters hair...'Bye Baby Bunting' I think is the song," they say. Others on the same page think it sounds like the theme from Wilfred. Update: In the making of video for the "Prey" episode, The Governor's whistling has been confirmed to be "Bye Baby Bunting."
