Jonathan Coulton, Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa's original graphic novel Code Monkey Save World has been fully funded after less than 12 hours, and is currently sitting at over $45,000 (from their $39,000 goal). The graphic novel was announced at just after 9 a.m. EST this morning, and is set in the "JoCoVerse," a universe made up of characters from Coulton's music. The pair decided to make a graphic novel together after Pak tweeted that the characters in Coulton's songs could form a pretty serviceable supervillain team. It will draw monsters and super-villains from Coulton songs like "Code Monkey," "Skullcrusher Mountain," "The Future Soon," and "Re: Your Brains." Coulton will also write a new song inspired by the graphic novel, and a "soundtrack" including the new song is among the rewards for Kickstarter backers. "We got zombies, we got giant squid, we got creepy doll, we got curlers. It's all happening," Coulton said in the Kickstarter project's video (embedded below). The pair previously worked together on Pak's The Vision Machine, and you can read him talking to ComicBook.com about that project here. Digital distribution for Code Monkey Save World will go through Monkeybrain Comics and ComiXology. "We're very excited to be working with Monkeybrain and comiXology," said Pak. "Monkeybrain has done an amazing job of getting fantastic, genuinely independent creator-owned comics out into the world and comiXology has developed a phenomenal app for viewing comics on digital devices."
