In new set visit interviews, Man Of Steel writer David S. Goyer revealed that Superman will develop new super powers the longer that he is on Earth. There has been much speculation over exactly when Superman develops his ability to fly. One theory is that he is initially only able to make super leaps, but as he grows older learns to fly. In this theory, it's also often speculated that maybe Zod and the other Kryptonians don't initially have the ability to fly when they first arrive on Earth. Another theory is that Superman's suit gives him the ability to fly. David S. Goyer has made some comments which seem to at least give some credence to this possibility. In an interview with Collider, David S. Goyer said, "I mean, the costume has a utility and we're going to explain where the costume comes from and why and he doesn't just fly into the crystal thing and come out with a costume."  Goyer also added, "There's a reason for this suit to exist that you'll see in the movie.  Again, even the way it looks is sort of explained and what it does and what it's used for is explained in the movie." In regards to the lack of red underpants on the suit, Goyer explained, "I mean, ultimately, based on what we're using the suit for in the movie in terms of explaining why it's there, the underpants, it made no sense." The fact that DC Comics also chose to get rid of the red underpants in the comic books wasn't something that was coordinated. It was just a coincidence that they were doing away with them as well. While the idea of the suit actually being the source of Superman's flight powers might seem unlikely, the fact that Goyer seems insistent that they made sure everything on the suit had a purpose does make us believe that the suit does somehow play into Superman's flying ability. Maybe, Superman's cape plays some role in helping Superman navigate while flying. The Man Of Steel is scheduled to be released at movie theaters in the United States on June 14, 2013.
