Speaking on the Empire Magazine podcast, Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon revealed that Loki will not appear in the as-yet-untitled Avengers sequel. "Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you'll be looking for 'quim,'" Whedon said. "First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki's not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it's just a nice word." That's an interesting revelation, given that up until this point both Whedon and actor Tom Hiddleston had been fairly tight-lipped about future plans for the character beyond Thor: The Dark World. The actor certainly has more movies left on his contract. "When I first signed my contract to be in Thor, it was an engagement to be in Thor, and then there were five options potentially for other Marvel movies," Hiddleston told ComicBook.com. "So The Avengers is one of them, Thor 2 will be number three, so after Thor 2 there are a remaining three options to which Marvel can exercise the right to put me in other stuff."
