Marvel Studios Presents Marvels The AVENGERS Closing Night of The Tribeca Film Festival

In spite of how much fun it is to joke about, Clark Gregg says Agent Phil Coulson wasn't operating undercover in the White House of The West Wing President Josiah Bartlet--although he believes that his portrayal of Agent Dave Casper, his character on the long-running NBC series, was probably key to getting him the job. "I think it's possible that Jon Favreau thought of me for this mysterious Agent part that was still being developed in Iron Man because he'd been watching The West Wing. I may be wrong but I think he mentioned that," Gregg told Collider in the video embedded below. "And Agent Dave Casper of The West Wing was a dry, somewhat sarcastic federal agent from the brilliant pen of Aaron Sorkin--so I've had some wonderful people write me beaureaucrat-type characters with a great sense of humor." You can check out the rest of the interview, in which Gregg talks about finding out about the continuation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (and jokes that the Coulson who died in The Avengers was a Skrull) below.
