Gulfstream Pictures has just announced that they have acquired in a high six-figure deal the international action-thriller script, The Feud, about two prominent Hong Kong families caught up in a centuries-old conflict. The Feud is by writers Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes, who were behind the surprise hit of the summer, the critically acclaimed supernatural thriller, The Conjuring. The Conjuring, based on a true story involving paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) and directed by James Wan (Saw, Insidious) opened with a record-setting $41.9 million and has already grossed $90 million in just its first 11 days of release, exceeding all estimates and putting it on track to cross the $100 million mark this weekend. The Hayes Bros. are already busy writing the sequel for New Line Cinema. Producing The Feud are Gulfstream partners Mike Karz and Bill Bindley and Circle of Confusion's David Alpert, Ken Freimann and Rick Jacobs. Gulfstream's EVP Josie Rosen will oversee The Feud for the company, with assistance from creative executive Matt Phelps. Bindley said, "We have been friends and fans of Chad and Carey for years and we're thrilled to be in business with them and the guys at Circle of Confusion." Karz added, "The Feud is an adrenaline-charged global action film, and the perfect addition to our growing repertoire." Gulfstream Pictures launched in August 2012 with an exclusive first-look deal with Warner Bros. and a multi-million-dollar development fund from Korea-based 3D stereoscopic leader Redrover Co., Ltd. and a consortium of U.S. private equity funds.
