Hugh Jackman wants Wolverine to join the Avengers, and Andrew Garfield wants Spider-Man to join the Avengers, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. In a new interview with Total Film (via ComicBookMovie.com), Avengers: Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon casts doubt on the possibility of a multi-studio crossover, even though he stops short of ruling it out completely. In regards to a multi-studio crossover, Joss Whedon said, "That's not the plan. It would be cool but I think right now I already have a ton of very talented actors in my movie playing a ton of characters, and I'm about to add a few more. So I'm not like, 'How can we get more licensed characters because I want to kill myself and make a nine-hour movie.'" Of course, saying it's not the plan is not the same as saying it's not ever going to be done. It also doesn't rule out the possibility of a brief cameo, which has always seemed like a more likely scenario than either Spider-Man or The Wolverine actually joining the Avengers. A brief cameo would be a great way to excite fans and cross-promote movies, but it wouldn't have all the complications of figuring out profit-sharing that a more extended appearance by a character from another studio would likely require. In regards to adding a few more characters, Whedon is likely referring to the already announced Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, but it certainly sounds like he might also be adding even more characters down the road from among the Marvel properties that Marvel Studios still owns the film rights to. What other Marvel characters do you think Whedon has in mind for the Avengers? Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 1, 2015.
