The script that The X-Files creator Chris Carter was developing for Amazon Studios has been ordered to pilot, Deadline revealed today. Carter has been more visible this year than he had been in some time, working the convention circuit with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in support of The X-Files's 20th anniversary. It was, then, not entirely unexpected when it recently came to light that he was working on a new hourlong drama. That he's pitching it to Amazon rather than his friends at Fox is an interesting wrinkle. The show is a drama set during the apocalypse. Little else is known about it yet. Carter will write and direct the pilot, in spite of the fact that he has been largely absent from TV, although his longtime staff writer and producer Vince Gilligan went on to create Breaking Bad.
