Thor The Dark World Box Office

Early predictions for this weekend's box office called for Thor: The Dark World to easily win its second weekend at the U.S. box office. Then, on Friday, Best Man Holiday shocked experts by exceeding expectations and actually beating Thor: The Dark World. However, as we've noted in our previous box office reports, many box office experts still struggle to accurately forecast Marvel Studios movies, which tend to play very well with family audiences. Many forecasts are based on Friday results and Marvel Studios films tend to exceed expectations on Saturday and Sunday when more families tend to turn out at movie theaters. That appears to be exactly what happened with Thor: The Dark World for the second weekend in a row. With a strong Saturday and Sunday performance, Thor: The Dark World is now actually projected to exceed expectations and bring in $38.5 million during its second weekend at the U.S. box office. Best Man Holiday still did quite well and also greatly exceeded expectations with projections of $30.6 million, but it didn't finish quite as close to Thor: The Dark World as many were expecting after the Friday results.
