The Hobbit The Desolation of Smaug Box Office

Despite facing stiff competition from some new releases, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continued to rule the box office on Christmas Day. For Wednesday, December 25, 2013, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug took in $9.32 million, which was good enough for first place at the U.S. box office. New release The Wolf of Wall Street was a very close second, bringing in $9.15 million at the U.S. box office. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues took third place with $8.1 million. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which was another new release, took fourth place with $7.825 million. Besides The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, other new releases included 47 Ronin and Grudge Match. 47 Ronin finished in sixth place with $7 million, while Grudge Match took ninth place with $3.965 million. To date, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has accumulated $149.9 million at the U.S. box office and $426.2 million at the worldwide box office.
