Amazing Spider-Man 3 GwenSpoiler Warning:

This article contains spoilers for a famous Spider-Man storyline, which may or may not be part of Amazing Spider-Man 2. In the early superhero movies, women more often than not played the role of damsel in distress. However, more recent superhero movies appear to be breaking from that trend thankfully. Gwyneth Paltrow's character Pepper Potts played a much larger role in Iron Man 3, helping to save the day. It also appears as if Emma Stone's character Gwen Stacy will play a much more active role in Amazing Spider-Man 2. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Stone was asked how many times Spider-Man saves her in Amazing Spider-Man 2. Stone answered, "Not many. I can think of one important instance. She saves him more than he saves her. She's incredibly helpful to Spider-Man... He's the muscle, she's the brains." Stone also added, "I don't get to do too many crazy stunts. She gets herself in the middle of stuff, that's for sure! I do get webbed to a car. There's s**t like that." In the classic Spider-Man storyline "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," Spider-Man accidentally snapped Gwen Stacy's neck when trying to stop her fall, after the Green Goblin threw her off a bridge. Stone's reference to Spider-Man not saving her many times could be interpreted as a hint that maybe he won't wind up saving her in Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, Stone's mention of one importance instance when he does save her could also be interpreted as a hint that the movie plans to deviate from the comic book storyline in this regards. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to open in movie theaters in the United States on May 2, 2014.
