As part of an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Marvel Studios have released five new images from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Seemingly composed of four still photos from the film or the set and a behind-the-scenes photo of directors Joe and Anthony Russo, the images emphasize the espionage feel of the movie, with lighting and colors that feel like the '70s spy thrillers the Russo brothers have said they're emulating. "We loved that idea of embracing the conflict that Steve has had in the comics from the moment he thawed out and woke up in the mid-'60s," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said. "Imagine that, going to sleep in the 1940s and waking up and you've got the JFK assassination and MLK and RFK and Woodstock and Watergate. Clearly, we're not doing any of that stuff, but we're embracing the tone of those comics."

"For Steve, it's about what is right," said franchise star Chris Evans about his character. "He's relatively acclimated to the modern day — it's not tech shock anymore, he's not just like, 'What's a cellphone?' It's more about, given his situation, given the company he works for, what are we doing that's the right thing? How much privacy, civil liberties are we willing to compromise for security? It's pretty crazy how relevant it is right now." Controversial government policies like the USA PATRIOT Act and drone strikes have been singled out as issues that will get some attention in the film. On the addition of former Captain America sidekick Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, Evans added, "Meeting Mackie's character, he used to serve, now he works at the VA counseling guys who come home with PTSD — they connect on that level. I think they're both wounded warriors who don't bleed on other people. Cap has no one to bleed on. I think Mackie knows how to handle people like that. … Sometimes when things are bad, trusting a stranger is the way to go." Falcon is rumored to be one of a number of Marvel Universe characters who will appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due in theaters in April.
