Rumor: Johnny Depp Up To Play Dr. Strange

Back in 2011, Comicbook.com suggested that a great superhero movie role for Johnny Depp would be Dr. Strange. Of course, there have been numerous rumors tying Johnny Depp to Dr. Strange over the years, but most of the rumors have turned out to be wishful fan casting. Now, it looks like Johnny Depp might be up for the Dr. Strange role for real. According to Latino Review, one of their well-connected sources has indicated that Johnny Depp is meeting with Marvel Studios to talk about the role of Dr. Strange. While this report should be considered rumor, Latino Review has a very strong track record in breaking Marvel Studios casting news. It's also the sort of rumor that makes sense for a lot of reasons. Johnny Depp has a strong relationship with Disney, who happens to own Marvel Studios. Even though Depp has a strong fan following, his last couple movies haven't done well at the box office. A superhero movie could be just Depp's ticket to rejuvenate his career. Latino Review is also reporting the Dr. Strange is being eyed for a 2016 release date, as part of Phase 3, which is something we've heard from our own sources as well.
