Veronica Mars

has been named the most-anticipated movie of 2014 according to the voters in MTV's Movie Brawl 2014, a tournament-style poll that started with 32 of the year's biggest and cultiest films and eventually was determined in a showdown between Veronica Mars and Vampire Academy earlier this week. You can see the 8-bit-style "tournament" video below that MTV used to announce the win. To accompany it, they wrote: Congratulations to "Veronica Mars" for being crowned the most-anticipated movie of 2014 in this year's MTV Movie Brawl tournament! Thank you to all movie fans for participating and see you next year! The voting was open to fans and, like the People's Choice Awards and other similar fan-decided contests, they were encouraged to vote as often as they liked--meaning that it's not the largest fandom that wins, necessarily, as much as it is the most rabid. Veronica Mars will get a theatrical release on about 100 screens around the country in March, mostly from the AMC chain. Tickets go on sale February 14. The film was directed by Rob Thomas, creator and executive producer of the show, whose iZombie pilot, based on the Vertigo comics by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred, was just greenlit at The CW for Fall 2014.
