Vin Diesel voicing Groot

In August of last year, a report came out that Groot might actually be somewhat more vocal in James Gunn's upcoming adaptation of Marvel Comics's Guardians of the Galaxy than he traditionally has been in the comics themselves. That is, that he might say more than just "I am Groot," the one sentence he's capable of speaking in the source material. Not long after that, Vin Diesel himself denied the report, but doubts have lingered among fans who wondered just how weird Guardians of the Galaxy can get while still operating on behalf of Disney and with a massive budget. Weird enough, apparently... "The ways in which Vin Diesel says, 'I Am Groot,' I am utterly astounded," Gunn told the Pointless podcast, adding that the actor took the one line quite seriously, making sure to understand in each scene just what Groot was actually attempting to communicate and trying to intone that emotion or message into his delivery of "I am Groot."
