The popular open-world video game Minecraft is going to be made into a major motion picture from The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee, Deadline reports. Warner Bros.just acquired the rights to the game from Swedish indie developer Mojang AB (mojang means "gadget" in Swedish). Warners is apparently interested in putting together a live-action version--how that might work is hard to say, and it's not unlikely it will end up looking more like Lego. Lee, who produced The Lego Movie with Dan Lins, is handling Minecraft for the studio via his Vertigo Entertainment along with Jill Messick, who will also produce in some capacity. Jon Berg is the executive in charge at the studio. The game is one in which players can create any environment they can dream up with virtual "blocks." It often is described as a "open sandbox" where the users can build anything they want. Minecraft launched its beta in 2009 and its full version in 2011 and has been one of the top-five open world games on the Internet since.
