The Walking Dead Still EpisodeThe Walking Dead

continues to redefine itself in the second half of Season 4. While we've seen an advanced screening of the "Still" episode of The Walking Dead, we're not allowed to give away any spoilers, so a little talk about the tone and what's already been revealed through previews will have to suffice for now. The tone of this episode is very much a character study. For those who have been waiting to see more Daryl Dixon this season, they should be very pleased with this episode. However, the episode is just as much if not more so about Beth Greene, as it is about Daryl. They both go through a journey in this episode, and behave in ways that might have many questioning what they thought they knew about these two characters. As was evident from Daryl and Beth's appearance in the "Inmates" episode, Daryl basically believes that the rest of their group is dead, and Beth is still holding out hope that the others are still alive. When the "Still" episode kicks off, both Daryl and Beth are still clinging to their views from the last time we saw them on the series. The impact of The Governor's attack on the prison has affected these two characters in very different ways. To say anymore would probably be construed as a spoiler, but don't take anything for granted when it comes to how both Daryl and Beth react to being outside the prison. In fact, I expect some viewers might be caught off guard by some of Daryl's actions. As Norman Reedus himself put it, Daryl starts off the episode in "a really dark place." For fans, who have been waiting to find out what Daryl did before the zombie apocalypse, answers are coming in this episode, which of course we can't reveal. The episode is an emotional roller-coaster for both Daryl and Beth, and let's just say no punches are pulled when it comes to forthright and hard-hitting conversation between these two. For Norman Reedus, this episode marks his strongest performance since the Season 3 "This Sorrowful Life" episode, when his character Daryl encountered his zombified brother Merle. For Emily Kinney, it marks her strongest performance ever on the show, as her character Beth really steps out of the shadows in this episode.
