Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver

With Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch slated to appear in next summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans have been wondering how Marvel Studios is going to work around their mutant origin given that Fox still has the rights to mutants in general packaged up with the rights to make X-Men films. One theory has been that, instead of being mutants, the twins will be members of a different super-powered subspecies, the Inhumans. The theory was given some additional credibility since Marvel Comics seems to be pushing the Inhumans hard into the spotlight following the events of the Infinity crossover event, even having Inhumans begin popping up around the globe, in a very mutant-like fashion, as a result of the Terrigenesis event. However, while speaking to The Huffington Post, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that the studio would not be replacing mutants with Inhumans. "Well, Inhumans is something that we are definitely thinking about," said Feige, "and we think there's great potential there for a great movie. But, no, no -- we have not linked those two…As it relates to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver? No. No, no, no." So, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will not be Inhumans (though he does seem to leave option open to use with other characters), but an Inhumans movie is apparently something that could happen all on its own. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Scarlet Witch will be played by Elizabeth Olsen and Quicksilver will be played Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In the comics, the characters are the twin, mutant children of the X-Men's greatest foe, Magneto, who eventually reformed, left the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and joined up with the Avengers. Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1, 2015.
