Lance shows other cops a photo of their target, Frank Bertinelli. They rush into the building where he is holed up. Arrow and Black Canary watch from a nearby rooftop, and she thanks Arrow for helping her watch out for her father. A massive shootout occurs with the cops and Bertinelli's men. Arrow and Black Canary help out. A man shoots Lance, and Black Canary rushes to him, but he took it in the vest and tells her that he is fine. She rushes off after the man who shot her Dad. Arrow captures Bertinelli as Black Canary catches the man who shot Lance and throws him through a high window. In a nearby alley, Lance argues with Sara about throwing the man out a window. He asks her to show restraint, but she says that she did. Arrow approaches and he and Black Canary leave.

In the Arrowcave, Ollie, Roy, Dig, and Sara listens as Felicity explains who Helena/Huntress is and why they should look out for her. Sara is surprised to learn that she is Ollie's ex. Flashback to Slade on the boat. Ollie is chained and being beaten by Slade's men. Slade learns that the boat's engine is damaged and no one there can fix it. They're not going anywhere. Laurel attends an AA meeting, and talks about how she doesn't know what to do with herself now that she has no job. Donner calls her and asks her to come in. In Donner's office, he offers Laurel her job back, and gives her the Bertinelli case. In Verdant, Roy gives Thea a large bracelet. He walks over to Ollie, Dig, Sara, and Felicity at the bar and asks what is happening. They know Helena is back, and Ollie lets Roy back into the field. A black van drives, and Arrow gets in its way. It tries to turn, but Black Canary blocks it. Roy comes from the side to the car, and the driver shoots him in the hand. Enraged, Roy rips the driver from the car and throws him to the ground. It's not Helena, but a young man. Ollie holds Roy at bay with an arrow until he is calm, and they question the driver. He says Helena paid him. They force the driver back into the van and hide in the back, making him drive. But they don't find her. In the Arrowcave, Felicity confirms that the driver is just a local frat boy. Ollie goes to Roy to talk about his emotional rages. Roy claims he was backing down on his own, but Ollie never gave him the chance. Ollie asks Roy to break up with Thea. Roy insists that Thea is the only thing that keeps him calm, but Ollie is sure that Roy will hurt her, and says that if Roy loves her, he'll stay away from her. Felicity then discovers that Laurel is prosecuting Bertinelli. Sara goes to Laurel to try and convince her that she's not ready to get back to work. Sara slips up and mentions Helena, but covers. Laurel refuses to quit. Flashback to the island. Sara leads the men who escaped to Ollie's old hideout. Slade calls Sara on a radio. Using Ollie as a hostage, he demands to know if a man named Hendrick is with her. Sara and Hendrick look at each other. Dig comments on Ollie's non-lethal arrows. Sara shows and says she couldn't get Laurel to quit. She asks Ollie about his "baby arrows" and tells him she wants him to use lethal ones to protect Laurel. Ollie says he is going to the courthouse, and tells Sara to stay behind. She's too close to think clearly. He promises to protect Laurel. Felicity tells Sara that she hopes Ollie kicks Huntress' ass. Ollie greets Laurel and says he is there to watch her do her thing. Laurel sees Bertinelli brought in the front door and comments on it. Suddenly, a smoke bomb rolls in. Ollie recognizes it and protects Laurel as it goes off. Huntress and her crew show up. Ollie tries to talk to her, but Bertinelli taunts her. It is revealed that the police were waiting for Huntress and the trial was a sham, a trap to catch her. A fight ensues, and Ollie pushes Laurel into the next room to protect her. He then goes to save Bertinelli and takes him outside to the cops as Huntress wins and demands the courthouse employees be taken hostage. Laurel hides. More police arrive, and one of them argues with Donner about how his plan failed. Lance realizes that Donner set Laurel up and punches him. They make contact with Huntress, who demands her father in exchange for the hostages. Or she'll kill one an hour. Outside, Lance calls Arrow. Ollie is standing right next to him and Lance reacts to Ollie's phone ringing. Ollie has prepared for this by programming Lance's number in his phone with Moira's name and picture, and shows Lance, saying it's his Mom. Ollie walks away and answers as Arrow. He then calls Felicity, tells her about the near miss with the phone, and asks Dig to bring his Arrow gear; Felicity confesses that Sara is not in the cave. Laurel is found by one of Huntress' men, but Black Canary shows up and saves the day. Laurel does not recognize her. At Verdant, Roy is bumped into by a patron, and crushes the guy's shoulder in anger. Horrified, Roy walks over to Thea and tries to dump her. She refuses to break up with him and says that whatever he is dealing with, she is there for him. A waitress interrupts with a customer complaint. Laurel and Black Canary evade the bad guys and hide. Laurel spots some bottles of booze and grabs one, but Black Canary points out her 30 day chip. Laurel is upset that she was expendable and there was no trial. She says that her sister was right, but all Laurel wanted was to be strong like Sara. Black Canary tells Laurel to show her how strong she is, and Laurel puts the bottle aside. They start moving again as Arrow calls. Black Canary says she's getting Laurel out, but Laurel doesn't know why she is so special and wants Black Canary to save the other hostages. She refuses to leave, so Black Canary has to help Laurel. Ollie doesn't want Sara to use lethal force, but Sara insists she'll do what she has to for the people she loves. Flashback. Sara lies and says Hendrick drowned, but Slade can tell she is lying. He holds the radio to Ollie, who tells Sara not to help Slade. Slade has one of his men shock Ollie, who screams in pain. He increases the voltage and Ollie passes out. Slade tells Sara that one more increase will kill Ollie, and he'll use it if he doesn't have Hendrick in one hour. Hendrick pulls a gun and aims it at Sara, saying he's not going back. An hour has passed, and Huntress selects the hostage she is going to kill first. Before she can, Black Canary drops in a device which lets out a painful high-pitches noise and blows out all the windows. Laurel tries to untie hostages as Black Canary and Huntress fight. Huntress throws Black Canary from a window and aims a weapon at her, but Arrow has arrived and shoots the weapon from Huntress' hand. Meanwhile, one of Huntress' men captures Laurel. Arrow calls Huntress, who tells Arrow that she knows the police won't deal, but he will. Bertinelli for Laurel. Verdant is closed. Thea calls for more vodka, but no one answers. She goes to get more, and finds Roy kissing the waitress from before. Sobbing, she throws the bracelet he gave her at him and leaves. Lance helps Arrow and Black Canary get Bertinelli in the back of a police van. He asks is Arrow will really make the trade, and Arrow yells that no one is going to die. Laurel talks to Huntress about Michael and how Tommy also died and she turned to alcohol and pills to cope. She tells Huntress that she doesn't have to give into the darkness, and Huntress says that "once you let the darkness in, it never comes out." Arrow calls. The police make a plan, including taking out anyone in a mask, and break into the courthouse. They find that Huntress forced a hostage with similar hair to wear her clothes and stand with her back to them. Meanwhile, Huntress is disguised as a police officer and she and Laurel walk away. Lance drives Arrow, Black canary, and Bertinelli to the meeting place. Arrow and Black Canary argue again, and he says he doesn't want her to become the Huntress. Flashback. Hendrick argues with the other men and aims his gun at them. Sara sneaks up behind him and knocks him out with a pipe. The cops track Laurel's cell phone, but only the cop who argued with Donner earlier goes. Huntress and Arrow face off with their prisoners and his allies. Bertinelli talks about Helena as a child and apologizes for what he did to that little girl. Huntress is unforgiving and throws Laurel to the ground as she aims her gun at Bertinelli. The police officer has found them and shoots at them. Ollie shoots back. Huntress and Black canary face off again. Huntress taunts Black Canary about their earlier fight and Black Canary claims she was holding back before, but won't now. They fight. Lance punches out the other cop. Black Canary gains the upper hand and starts to choke Huntress. Laurel begs her to stop, and she does. Huntress goes to kill her father, only to find out he was hit by one of the cop's bullets and is dead. She is stricken that she didn't kill him herself and does nothing as Lance captures her. Lance tells Arrow and Black canary to go. At police headquarters, Ollie uses his family's connections to visit Helena in the interrogation room she waits in. She says he was right, her father is finally dead but she doesn't feel any different. Ollie says he was wrong to, because he thought he could help her. But back then, he was a killer too. Now he tries to be better. Helena is sad because her father and Michael are dead together and she is alone. Ollie tells her that she is not, and a police officer comes in to take her away. Flashback. Ollie wakes up in pain. He asks what Slade is doing to him. Slade explains that historically, criminals are sometimes branded. He has given Ollie a replica of the tattoo that Shado on her back. Sara calls then, offering Hendrick for Ollie, who she and the others have tied up. At her office, Laurel meets up with D.A. Kate. Donner has been fired for his sham trial. She apologizes to Laurel, but Donner was not authorized to rehire her in the first place, it was just part of the ruse. Laurel threatens to expose what Donner did unless she is hired back, and Kate complies, stating that she thought blackmail would be too dark for Laurel. Laurel repeats what Huntress said about letting the darkness in. Ollie finds Thea in her office at Verdant, crying. She tells him about Roy. She knows that he only kissed the other girl to push her away, but it worked. She talks about how everyone lies and keeps secrets, like Roy and Moira. Thea tells Ollie that he is the only one who never lies or keeps secrets. Ollie offers to take Thea home, but she says she wants to be alone. Sara arrives as Thea leaves and Ollie tells Sara that she did good. Sara says that's what heroes do. Roy watches Thea from camera feeds in the Arrowcave. Dig squeezes Roy's shoulder for a moment, but it is not enough and Roy crushes the large silver bracelet. As Thea walks down the sidewalk, a car pulls up beside her. Slade is in the backseat. He tells Thea that it is not safe and offers her a ride. Thea gets in his car.
