Jeff Lemire will be adding a new character to the Justice League in the pages of "Justice League United." That character is Equinox, a Cree teenager from Ontario, Canada. The Cree are a First Nation/Native American tribe locate in Canada. Equinox will be introduced during the "Justice League Canada" story arc that begins in the debut of "Justice League United" this April. Lemire is Canadian himself, with his breakout work being "Essex County," a trilogy of slice-of-life stories taking place in rural Canada. Lemire wants to bring that same setting to the Justice League. "Not just put the CN Tower in the background and call it Justice in Canada," Lemire told CBC News. "I wanted to put it in a rural setting because I think that's a really interesting thing: to take these big, bombastic superhero stories and put them in a very quiet setting, where you normally wouldn't see those characters." Lemire hopes to bring a new perspective to the Justice League by introducing Equinox, whose powers are tied to the Earth and the changing of the seasons. "Creating a teenage female superhero was interesting to me because, generally, most superheroes are white males. We need diversity and we need different personalities," Lemire said. "Justice League United" #1 arrives in comic shops this April.
