Rooker made a splash early in his acting career by playing the lead in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Some of his more well-known acting roles among comic book fans include playing Jared Svenning in Kevin Smith's Mallrats, Colonel Edwards in Stargate SG-1, Grant Grant in Slither, William Rice in Jumper, Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead, and Yondu in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
