Gearbox Software and 2k Australia have officially announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the newest game in the Borderlands series. The Pre-Sequel chronicles Handsome Jack's rise to power on Pandora following the events of Borderlands, but prior to the events of Borderlands 2. Players will play as a member of Handsome Jack's team taking over Pandora. The game features four new character classes: Nisha the Lawbringer, Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer (who appeared in Borderlands 2) and a playable Claptrap. The game takes place during a time when Pandora had no atmosphere, which will greatly alter the feel of the game and allow for the introduction of new game mechanics. Following a pattern in the video game industry, Gearbox Software is handing off development of this "in-between" game in the Borderlands series to 2k Australia, similar to how franchises like Batman Arkham and Call of Duty have had games developed by multiple development studios to increase the frequency of releases in the series. Telltale Games – developers behind The Walking Dead video game and The Wolf Among Us – are also working on an adventure game set in the Borderlands universe. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will come to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC this fall.
