Twentieth Century Fox has released a new sneak peek video of X-Men: Days of Future Past, featuring commentary from director Bryan Singer (via Entertainment Weekly). Singer explains that the concept of the time travel film was based on his desire to direct the new cast from X-Men: First Class, but still get to reunite with old friends from his previous X-Men films "What made me particularly excited to return to the X-Men universe, as a director," says Singer, "is I didn't have a chance to direct the younger cast in X-Men: First Class, and also a chance to work with actors that I was so familiar with and had such a great experience with on X-Men 1 and 2." This drove Singer to find a way to combine the two casts. With time travel being a recurring element in the X-Men mythos since Chris Claremont and John Byrne's Days of Future Past story in 1980, it was easy to figure out how. The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save our future. X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to theaters May 23.
