The Vision

Last week on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Paul Bettany came on as a guest to promote his new film Transcendence. While there, he discussed his upcoming role as the Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Kimmel brought out a drawing of Vision, and said, "He look a little bit like the superhero version of Speaker of the House John Boehner. You're really going to have to tan for this thing." Kimmel asked Bettany about the Vision's powers, but Bettany isn't allowed to say much. "Oh, I can do all sorts of things," said Bettany, "but I'm not allowed to really talk about them and what we're going to do because there might be a Marvel agent in the room that will actually wrestle me to the ground and fire me." Kimmel pointed out how the situation is slightly ridiculous, given that Vision's powers are well known through his extensive role in Marvel's Avengers comic books. "Really, the mystery is what powers won't be on display, more than what will," Kimmel commented. For the record, the Marvel Universe Wiki on Marvel.com lists the Vision's powers as: The Vision possesses complete control over his density, and so is able to render himself intangible or extraordinarily massive and diamond-hard at will. He can partially materialize within another person, causing his victim extreme pain. The solar cell on the Vision's forehead emits beams of infrared and microwave radiation, with temperatures ranging from 500 to 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Paul Bettany has been the voice of Jarvis, Tony Stark's computer system in the Iron Man films and the first Avengers film, since the original Iron Man. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jarvis will become the Vision, possibly through the machinations of Ultron who is the Vision's creator in the original Marvel comics. Bettany noted that being on screen is a lot more work than simply showing up for 45-minutes of voice work and being handed a big bag of cash. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Avengers reassemble to battle the sentient robot known as Ultron. Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1, 2015.
