is seeing a great success in its overseas debuts, bringing in $5.5 million on opening day in four markets: the U.K. Germany, Spain and Belgium. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had the highest grossest opening day of the year in all four markets, but the film's United Kingdom showing was the strongest, bringing in $2.7 million on its own. The original Amazing Spider-Man brought in $40.3 million from the U.K., making it an important market for the sequel. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also brought in $1.44 million from Australia, $1.3 million from Germany and $190,000 from Belgium. The film will expand into a full 15 territories this weekend. Spider-Man is traditionally popular at the international box office, with every Spider-Man film – including each entry in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy – bringing in over $400 million internationally. The first Amazing Spider-Man grossed $490 million internationally and $752 million worldwide in 2012. In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker runs the gauntlet as the mysterious company Oscorp sends up a slew of supervillains against him, impacting on his life. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens domestically May 2.
