could hold on to the top spot at the box office for a third straight week. Its biggest competition will, again, be Rio 2, the children's animated feature sequel.  The two films went head-to-head last week and most projected that Rio 2 would dethrone Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Captain America pulled out a victory, bringing in $41.3 million to Rio 2's $39.3 million. While Variety expects both films will only see weekend numbers in the low-to-mid $20 million range, they are still expected to outpace anything else currently in theaters. The biggest new challenger this week is Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp, but the film seems to have little buzz and has gotten poor early reviews – it currently has a 19% on RottenTomatoes - making it unlikely to upset the balance of things at the box office. BoxOfficeMojo is forecasting a weekend victory for Rio 2, but we think there's still a pretty good chance that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will remain on top. The long Easter weekend may mean more opportunities for some to bring their children to the theater, but Captain America still has a pretty healthy buzz about it and will likely be the movie of choice for families with pre-teen or teenage children.
