is tracking for a box office debut surpassing $60 million and maybe even hitting the $70 million mark, according to the Hollywood Reporter. This could be good news for Legendary Pictures, who put up 75 per cent of Godzilla's $160 million budget. Warner Bros. supplied the remaining 25 per cent of the film's funds. According to tracking, males are the most interested in seeing the film, but the studios believes that Bryan Cranston and the ensemble cast will draw in female viewers as well. If the film succeeds, it could become the first successful American film franchise based on Godzilla, following the flop that was Roland Emmerich's Godzilla in 1998. In Godzilla, the world's most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Godzilla is directed by Gareth Edwareds and stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins and David Strathairn. Godzilla comes to theaters May 16.
