Captain America The Winter Soldier Review

The new Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman took the #1 spot at the box office this weekend, halting Captain America: The Winter Soldier's three-week run. Next week should go back to the superheroes, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 making between $75 million and $100 million. That movie may well dominate the box office for three weeks, leading into the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past. In spite of a fairly dull week (the numbers were solid, but nothing new hit and nothing was too huge of a surprise, other than the continued performance of Heaven is For Real, but even that wasn't entirely unexpected since it dropped about the same week-to-week as did Son of God earlier this year), Deadline notes that Frozen will become the sixth Disney release to reach $400 million at the domestic box office (following Marvel's The Avengers and Iron Man 3, Disney'sPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Lion King and Pixar's Toy Story 3). They say only 14 other movies have hit that number, ever. Wally Pfister's sci-fi flop Transcendence continued its spiral this weekend, too, dropping about 57% from last week's already-disappointing opening. Considering the money spent and the hype, Heaven is For Real and The Other Woman are easy points of comparison; both were made on the cheap and turned modestly-successful opening weekends into "the movie's a hit!"
