Amazing Spider-Man 2 Projected For $95 Million Opening Weekend

Analysts are projecting that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will have an opening weekend gross in the neighborhood of $95 million, according to The Wrap. That means that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a fair chance of beating out Captain America: The Winter Soldier for best opening weekend of 2014 so far. Captain America: The Winter Soldier took in $95 million during its opening weekend in April. The projection is still short of what Sam Raimi's Spider-Man brought in during tis opening weekend in 2002. Spider-Man grossed $114 million in its first weekend at the box office, making it the first film to have a $100 million opening weekend. The Amazing Spider-Man 2's performance will be an important mile marker for the series as the film is being used as a launch pad for a shared Amazing Spider-Man film universe, with Venom and Sinister Six spinoff movies on the horizon. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes to theaters May 2.
