Stan Lee Talks Comic Book Movies And Jack Kirby

In an appearance on CNBC, Stan Lee shared some thoughts on the proliferation of comic book movies and the late, great Jack Kirby. When asked if all the comic book movies and TV shows had become too much in his point of view, Stan Lee replied, "Oh, I don't think it's enough [laughing]. Don't forget these comic books have been popular and growing in popularity for more than fifty years, always featuring the same characters…Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Avengers, and so forth. So now, we can put them on the big screen with special effects and 3-D. I think that they'll just go on, as long as we come up with good stories for them." When asked if he had any regrets about his own relationship or Marvel's relationship with Jack Kirby, who created these characters, Stan Lee said, "Well, he didn't create all of them, although he was involved in…the word create is an odd word. The stories were there, and I gave Jack the assignment to draw them. And he did the most magnificent job possible. And I don't know what to say. He was a freelancer, and he was paid as a freelancer. And now…I'm in the same boat as he is. I was a freelancer, and I was paid as freelancer." When asked how much he has spent on legal fees over the years, Stan Lee said, "Well, I personally have not had many things. The companies have had lawsuits, but I'm sort of out of it. Nobody is suing me for anything."
