Reports continue to trickle out of Hollywood concerning the departure of director Edgar Wright from Marvel's Ant-Man film. The Hollywood Reporter is now adding to the reports that last-minute script rewrites were what caused Wright to finally walk away from the project. Wright had reportedly been open to rewrites previously, but always with his own input considered. The most recent rewrites to the script that he co-wrote with Joe Cornish were apparently done without his input and gutted most of his vision and style from the film, leading to Wright's abrupt departure. Wright has been working on Ant-Man since Marvel's pre-Disney days in 2006, back when the studio was the upstart challenger to the Hollywood heavyweights. Now, eight years and a corporate buyout later, Marvel Studios is itself a heavyweight and an unusual and quirky film that breaks their house style likely seems a lot riskier, especially when helmed by a director whose only major studio production, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, was a financial bomb. Representatives for Paul Rudd, who is attached to star as Scott Lang in the film, say that the actor is still onboard. Marvel Studios is holding steady to the film's Jul 17, 2015 release date, but that may not be realistic. The film not only lost its director, but it's key crew walked when it became clear that the film would not begin shooting as scheduled in late July. THR's sources say that Marvel is currently searching for a director and that key crew will be replaced soon.
