The Amazing Spider-Man 3

Lots of superhero movie rumors in the air today. Following a report that Warner Bros. is about to unleash three superheroes movies a year in both 2016 and 2017, another report suggests Sony Pictures is pushing back a superhero movie.

According to Ain't It Cool News, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back from a June 10,2016 release date to an unspecified release date in 2017. While the report is unconfirmed, it has been spreading like wildfire online, and there are some compelling arguments that could back up the report.

Drew Goddard recently dropped out of being showrunner for Marvel's Daredevil series on Netflix, reportedly so he could focus on his writing and directing duties for Sinister Six. Could Sony be rushing Sinister Six into the 2016 spot to give some more space between Spider-Man films? It could make sense from the perspective of a Sinister Six film could tell the story of how the villains come together, leading up to a showdown with Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man 3.

We've reached out to Sony Pictures for comment on this report, and we will post and update when/if we hear back.
