If the just-announced Ed McGuinness variant for the upcoming Death of Wolverine #1 looks familiar, do not adjust your television.

It's actually an homage to a variant cover done for the death of Peter Parker over in Ultimate Spider-Man #157...

...also by McGuinness.

You can see them above.

McGuinness is far from the only artist to do such a cover; Todd McFarlane has done homages to Spider-Man #1 on other books in the past, and Marc Silvestri recently drew the cover of Witchblade #170 -- a clear homage to his own iconic Uncanny X-Men #251. Back in the '90s, Superman: The Man of Steel #75 featured a Jon Bogdanove cover that wasn't a send-up of his own cover, but that of Dan Jurgens' Superman #75, the final chapter of a story Bogdanove had worked on.
