Karen Gillan will make her superhero movie debut as Nebula in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but that's not the only superhero character that she's interested in playing. The former Doctor Who companion tells SFX that she'd like to join the Spider-Man Family.

If you could play a superhero, which one would you choose?
Yeah, who is there…? I want to play a version of Spider-Man that's a lady.

Spider-Woman?
Spider-Woman – does she exist?

There's a Spider-Woman and a Spider-Girl.
I want to play Spider-Girl!

From this quote, Gillan clearly doesn't really know who May "Mayday" Parker actually is, but she does seem to have an interest in being part of Spider-Man's world.

Spider-Girl is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson in the MC2 universe, one of Marvel's many possible futures. She was originally created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz in a What If story, and proved popular enough to warrant a 12-issue limited series from DeFalco and Frenz. The series sold well enough to be extended into an ongoing that became Marvel's longest running series led by a female character.

Given her obscurity and the fact that she only exists in an alternate future, the chances of seeing Spider-Girl on the big screen seem slim. Then again, Sony is trying to expand their Amazing Spider-Man franchise into its own film universe, so you never know.

Karen Gillan will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, coming to theaters August 1.
