The cast of the original 1979 Alien film is reunited to lend their voices to downloadable content for the upcoming game Alien: Isolation, according to IGN.

Sigourney Weaver will return to her role as Ellen Ripley for the first time in 17 years, and she will be joined by Tom Skerritt as Dallas, Veronica Cartwright as Lambert, Harry Dean Stanton as Brett, and Yaphet Kotto as Parker. Ian Holm will not return, though his character, Ash, will be featured in the DLC.

The downloadable content is made up of two missions that have players playing through "What If" scenarios based on the events of the original film. The first mission, "Crew Expendable," is available as part of the Nostromo Edition of the game, a free upgrade for anyone who preorders. The mission takes place just after Brett's death and has players taking control of Ripley, Dallas or Parker, as they attempt to flush out the alien. Players will be given a different perspective on events, depending on which character they chose.

The second mission, "Last Survivor," will only be available through select retailers and allows players to relive the original film's ending, controlling Ripley as she triggers the Nostromo's self-destruct sequence and tries to make it to the Narcissus shuttle in time to escape.

Alistair Hope, creative director on Alien: Isolation, says getting the original cast back together was crucial for these missions.

"I suppose we could've generated something that was along those lines," says Hope. "But it was absolutely critical to have those characters reprising their roles for this to work. When Parker says, 'This plan is suicide' – it actually has weight to it, and that comes from having Yaphet Kotto delivering the lines.

"It was unforgettable when Sigourney came in and started being Ellen Ripley again. It was quite special. The real joy was having Sigourney say, 'Ellen would say this.' We'd all look at each other, and say, 'yes, of course that's what she would say'. That's an insight we couldn't possibly have without working closely with those guys."

Alien: Isolation will be released October 7 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
