While the intergalactic police organization known as the Nova Corps is set to be a part of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy film, the character most often associated with the title of Nova, Richard Ryder, will not. According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, that wasn't always the case.

Screen Crush asked Feige if there was ever any plans to include Ryder in Guardians of the Galaxy. Here's what he had to say:

There were some thoughts to it, yes, back in early drafts in the early development stage. But, there was a fork in the road that we came to at one point in the development process where we decided to eliminate Nova and go full-on with Peter Quill's story.

So it seems that Ryder was cut from the film so that he wouldn't steal any of the spotlight from Quill. Leaves one to wonder if any of his presence remains, maybe even as just an Easter egg.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1.
