Over the weekend at Comic Con International: San Diego, no topic was more popular at The Walking Dead's press room than the status of Daryl Dixon's love life.

With both Carol and Beth alive and well, and the online "shipping" community cheerleading for their lady of choice, cast and crew alike were asked to weigh in on just what was happening between Daryl and Beth during the second half of Season Four, after he was separated from his presumptive love interest, Carol.

And, of course, what the heck ever happened to Beth when we saw her vanish.

ComicBook.com sat down at a roundtable with Emily Kinney, who plays Beth, and producer Gale Anne Hurd to talk about the issue.

"I don't want to give anything away but she is out there somewhere and your questions about what happened and how she got where she is will all be answered in Season Five," Kinney said. "That herd of zombies was coming toward the house and if you remember, Daryl was like, 'Go! Go!' and so if you remember the last thing you see of her is that car [driving away]."

"She would have been eaten otherwise," Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd chimed in.

"I think she realized he was like 'get out of here,' and she trusts him. I have to get out of here," Kinney said, and then when pressed for the nature of that relationship, she added, "I think they definitely have a certain connection that has grown by surviving together. They've gotten to know each other on a different level that's really special, whether it's friendship or something else that you find with someone. It's a connection that they have and they've gotten to know each other and so hopefully we'll soon be surviving together again."

"It's funny becuase they probably both feel guilt," Hurd added. "He's the one who opened the door for the dog, right? I mean, he let his guard down. How often does that happen in the zombie apocalypse? So I'm sure there's guilt from him that he couldn't track down the car that drove away with her."

ed. note: We originally reported that Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd had described the car as driving away "from her" rather than "with her," regarding Beth. That was obviously an error and has been corrected.
