Sharknado 2: The Second One drew nearly 4 million viewers and trended all over social media last night, marking the highest-ever rating for a Syfy original movie, Deadline reports.

The second installment in Syfy's camp disaster franchise premiered last night to 3.9 million viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49. That's nearly twice the numbers on the original Sharknado, which became an instant cult classic.

The sequel also outperformed the original on Twitter, generating 581,000 related tweets from 188,000 unique authors, up from 318,000 tweets by 112,000 users for Sharknado on July 11, 2013, according to Nielsen. Syfy estimates that the sequel was the most social movie on TV ever, delivering one billion impressions in Twitter conversations.

A third Sharknado movie is already in the works.
