Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack Is #1 On iTunes and Amazon

Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is the best-selling movie score and soundtrack on Amazon right now, as well as the #2-selling popular music CD on the site. It's similarly the #2 overall CD at Barnes & Noble right now (behind Eric Clapton's latest).

Meanwhile, it's the top overall bestselling album right now at iTunes, which considering how easy it is to shop from one's phone may suggest that many of its sales are coming as impulse buys from fans leaving the theater.

We'll have to wait a few days to see just how well it's doing in terms of selling physical units at retail outlets, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume that it will be somewhere in the top five. While this week's #1 is a more conventional pick, last week's #1, "Weird Al" Yankovic's Mandatory Fun, appealed to a similar audience as well as being the veteran recording artist's first Billboard #1.

"Weird Al" moved down from #1 to #3 in its second week of release. The Frozen soundtrack appears at #2 on that list, suggesting that if the Guardians CD is outselling Frozen by a wide margin, it will likely be at least in the top five when the sales numbers are in.
