Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a strong late night showing last night, bringing in $4.6 million.

Based on that performance, Paramount is now projecting a $45-50 million opening weekend for the film, which had a $125 million budget.

Guardians of the Galaxy, entering its second weekend at the box office, remains the Turtles' biggest competition. Guardians has already made $130 million domestically and $200 million worldwide.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O'Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, produced by Michael Bay, and stars Megan Fox, Johnny Knoxville, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Tony Shalhoub, William Fichtner, and Will Arnett.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters today.
