Sony has released, via Entertainment Weekly, one of the 13 deleted scenes included with the Blu-ray release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The scene has a pretty shocking reveal in it. While Peter Parker is grieving for his loss, he is approached by a man claiming to be Richard Parker, his father, whom Peter believed dead.

It's curious that this scene was dropped from the film, as it seems to be the payoff for the movie's opening sequence, which detailed Peter's parents' flight from New York and subsequent death's.

There's also the question of whether or not the man should be believed. Could he be lying? Could he be some sort of clone or science experiment coming out of Oscorp? Peter is pretty deep in mourning at this point of the film, so could it even be a hallucination?

And if the man is telling the truth, why wait until now and pick this moment to reveal himself? How did he survive the plane crash? Has he had Peter under surveillance the whole time?

There's a lot of questions here for fans of the series. Of course, with the scene being deleted, it's likely not considering 'canon,' and this plot thread may be retread in a different way in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released on Blu-ray August 19.
