Daryl Dixon Walking Dead 5 Sexuality

As first reported here on Comicbook.com, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed that the possibility of Daryl Dixon being gay had been discussed, and AMC would be completely fine with it if the writers took the character in that direction. Kirkman also indicated, "We have very specific ideas about Daryl's sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there's ever a quiet period in the show where he's not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we'll tackle it in the show."

Well, apparently, it's going to be non-stop crossbowing for Daryl in The Walking Dead Season 5. In a new interview with TVLine, showrunner Scott Gimple said, "We know all sorts of things about the characters that we haven't revealed. [But] we're not holding back information on Daryl's sexuality as any sort of big reveal. The fact that there's still a question as to what Daryl's orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl's character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick. That's been a very satisfying journey for all of us on the creative side to portray. [And] he's still on that journey."

Gimple also added that Daryl's sexuality "is not really addressed this season." So fans hoping to find out if Daryl prefers Carol or Beth or Rick will not get their answer anytime soon. However, Gimple did indicate that there will be a gay male character introduced on The Walking Dead, but he would not reveal when that introduction would occur. Gimple's tease certainly sounds like a hint that Paul "Jesus" Monroe could be heading from the comics to the TV series.

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres on Sunday, October 12 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
