Jon Favreau Won’t Direct ‘Avengers’

October 14, 2009 · Posted in Avengers movie, Iron Man 2 Movie · Comment

Jon Favreau won’t direct the ‘Avengers’ film and Edward Norton won’t reprise his role as the Hulk in ‘Iron Man 2.’  There had been rumors of both instances over the past few months.  Says Favreau:

“They’ll have to (find a different director), because I’m not going to be available.  It’s something I’m being the executive producer on, so I’ll definitely have input and a say.”

We tend to agree with Favreau’s perspective.  It might be better to find someone that hasn’t focused so hard on one character like he has with Iron Man.

Edward Norton’s To Appear in ‘The Avengers’ Movie?

September 24, 2009 · Posted in Avengers movie · 1 Comment

Edward Norton, who played Bruce Banner/Hulk in the 2008 version of the film, is open to continuing the character in the 2012 Avengers film, according to MTV.  Norton said it’s just a matter of scheduling:

“I just get very busy.  You have to deal with the demands of the moment.  I tend to keep my head in the thing I’m doing, and I don’t speculate or worry too much about what two or three blocks down the thing is gonna be.  I know all these things will reveal themselves and work out or not.”

I’ll say this–if Marvel didn’t require contractually that Norton appear in the Avengers film, then they’re idiots.  The last thing we need is a third person playing the character inside of a decade.

Thor Movie Adds Natalie Portman to Cast!

Marvel continues to roll out the announcements on its Thor movie.  Recently, rumors swirled around Jessica Biel being cast, which is still a possibility, but Marvel has confirmed that Natalie Portman, no stranger to comic book and science fiction movies with her work in V for Vendetta and the Star Wars prequels, will be playing the role of nurse Jane Foster, Thor’s first love in the comic book series.

While the character will be receiving what Marvel describes as an update for the character, this announcement may help to frame the plot of the film more and more, which will center on Thor being cast to Earth for his behavior, and ironically will have to defend it against the plans of Loki, played by Chris Hemsworth.  Portman brings an impressive list of credentials to the film, not the least of which is an Academy Award nomination for her work in Closer.

Ant-Man Movie Now on Back Burner for Wright?

After previously saying that work on an Ant-Man movie was certainly a top priority, director Edgar Wright may be having a change of heart, and priorities.  In speaking with Empire magazine, Wright mentioned that another project, one not based around an adaptation of a comic book or action figure franchise, may have taken his attention.   Read more

Ant-Man Movie Still has Interest, at Least From Edgar Wright!

Edgar Wright has certainly made a name for himself by directing a fair share of films that appeal to certain genres, such as his work on Shaun of the Dead and the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which may help to explain his continued interest in working on a big screen adaptation of one of Marvel Comics’ earliest, and arguably more niche, comic book characters, Ant-Man. Thor Movie Release Date Changed Again

Marvel.com is showing that the release date for Marvel’s live action Thor movie has changed yet again. For the second time in as many weeks, Marvel Studios has changed the film’s release date.   And for some, this should not come as a surprise.

Just last week, I reported that the Avengers film was to be pushed back to 2012, while the Thor movie was pushed back to 2011 and the Captain America movie was pushed back a couple months in 2011. The changes were done in an attempt to build up the anticipation for the first ever on-screen team up of Marvel’s greatest heroes. I also pointed out that since the release dates of the Thor movie was fairly close to the release date of Spider-Man 4 and The First Avenger: Captain America, Marvel would probably be moving the films again in order to rectify the scheduling overlap of the three films.
